Professor of Public and Private Management at Stanford University


Alain Enthoven is one of the nation's leading speakers on managed care and healthcare management. He is the Marriner S. Eccles Professor of Public and Private Management in the graduate school of business at Stanford University. A true real world expert in the areas of healthcare and managed care, Enthoven has held a wide variety of positions in both the government and corporate worlds. These include his work as the deputy assistant secretary of defense, an economist with the RAND Corporation, and the President of Litton Medical Products. In 1977, while serving as a consultant to the Carter Administration, he designed and proposed Consumer Choice Health Plan a plan for universal health insurance based on managed competition in the private sector. Enthoven has won many awards including the 1963 President's Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service from John F. Kennedy. Known for his unique expertise, Enthoven was recently appointed the chairman of the California Managed Health Care Improvement Task Force by Governor Pete Wilson.
