Robert Eccles
Lead Expert on the Crisis in Corporate Accounting

Dr. Eccles is a founder and president of Advisory Capital Partners, Inc. He is also a Senior Fellow of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Since 1993, ACP has provided strategic, financial and organizational advisory services to both large companies and fast-growing small and medium-sized ones. Prior to starting ACP, Eccles was a full professor at Harvard Business School where he was on the faculty for 14 years, receiving tenure in 1989. When he left HBS, he was chairman of the Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Area. While still at Harvard, Eccles pioneered a research methodology for identifying communication gaps in the capital markets. This was reported in a Sloan Management Review article, "Improving the Corporate Disclosure Process," with Sarah C. Mavrinac. Six years ago, Eccles began advising PricewaterhouseCoopers on its ValueReporting initiative. Through projects and an aggressive research program sponsored by PwC, Eccles refined and developed further methodologies for analyzing information flows and communication gaps in the capital markets. The culmination of nearly 10 years of research and practice development in this area led to a new book, The ValueReporting Revolution: Moving Beyond the Earnings Game, written with partners at PricewaterhouseCoopers. PwC and ACP are now collaborating to make the "revolution" a reality. The most recent product of this collaboration is a new book that Eccles co-authored with Samuel A. DiPiazza, Jr., CEO of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Building Public Trust: The Future of Corporate Reporting. This book was written to provide a broad framework for reforms in corporate reporting and how information is used in the capital. Eccles received his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Harvard University and a S.B. (Bachelor of Science) in Mathematics and a S.B. in Humanities and Social Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
