Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion and Television Broadcaster
Bill Clement is a former National Hockey League All-Star who played 11 years in the NHL with Philadelphia (Broad Street Bullies), Washington, and Calgary and has been the face and the voice of nationally televised hockey since 1986. He is also a successful actor, entrepreneur and speaker. His many post-playing accomplishments have been an outgrowth of the financial and emotional ruin he incurred during his first post-hockey venture into the real world.
Most recently, Bill Clement served as Studio Host for the NHL on NBC and for Hockey Central on the Versus Network. He can be heard regularly on XM Satellite Radio as well as NHL Radio and has recently expanded his electronic media portfolio to include broadcast coaching and consulting.
For 15 years, Bill Clement was the lead game-analyst for ESPN's extensive schedule of National Hockey Night telecasts. He also worked select games on ESPN2 and from 2000-2004 served as the lead analyst for ABC Sports' NHL telecasts. Clement has worked every Stanley Cup Final telecast since 1986. From 1999-2005 he did play-by-play for ESPN's Great Outdoor games and in 2004 and 2005 was the host of ESPN's Bassmaster Classic. He was a guest host on ESPN2's talk show, Cold Pizza in 2005 and has also worked as the studio analyst for CTV's coverage of the Canada Cup.
Bill Clement has been an integral part of the televising of four Olympiads. In 1992 he served as a game analyst for both TNT TV's and CBS Radio's hockey coverage at the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France. At the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002 he was NBC's studio analyst for hockey. In Athens he shifted gears during the 2004 Summer Olympics and worked for NBC as an expert analyst for badminton and table tennis, and as a play-by-play man for the modern pentathlon. At the 2006 Torino, Italy Winter Olympics Bill was NBC's host for all hockey coverage.
Bill Clement has won a Cable "ACE" Award as the best analyst in any sport and in a 1996 reader survey conducted by The Hockey News was voted "Favorite Hockey Personality on TV." His acting credits include work on the ABC daytime drama All My Children and more than 250 television ads for clients such as Chevrolet, Deep Woods Off and NAPA Auto Parts. In early 1990, Clement entered the world of human development presentations and is now making corporate and association presentations on an international basis.
The former center began his professional hockey career with the Philadelphia Flyers organization, and he won two Stanley Cup championships with the Broad Street Bullies. He then moved to Washington and after one season with the Capitals, in which he played in his first NHL All-Star Game, was traded to the Atlanta Flames where he played for five seasons and was selected to his second All-Star Game. In 1980, he moved with the Flames to Calgary, where he finished his career in 1982.
Clement is a native of Thurso, Quebec, the same Canadian town that produced hall of famer, Guy Lafleur. Clement and Lafleur both have streets in their hometown named after them.
