Inspirational NBA Legend
Suffering from a severe stuttering disability most of his life, Bob Love, the last person in his family to be born on a plantation, rose to become a Chicago Bulls NBA superstar, only to eventually end up working as a busboy and dishwasher to support his family when his basketball career was unexpectedly shortened.
Today, as Director of Community Affairs for the Chicago Bulls, he makes over three hundred appearances each year, and he speaks to over 250,000 young people and their parents about the importance of staying in school, getting an education, perseverance over adversity, and achieving one's dreams. He is considered one of the top motivational speakers in the sports field in the country. After 45 years of being unable to speak, his own dream has finally come true. Today, when people ask him what he does for a living, he tells them, "I TALK."
Bob Love's story is one of struggle and survival, ...of hope and of love. It is a story of everyone's struggle to face their own shortcomings, and to succeed in life in spite of the obstacles that are placed before us. It is a story that gives hope to all of us, ...that no matter what the odds, we can succeed.
Bob Love led the Chicago Bulls in scoring for seven straight seasons with a total of 12,623 points. He was an NBA All-Star in 1971, 1972, and 1973; All-NBA Second Team 1970-71, and 1971-72; NBA All-Defensive Second Team 1971-72, 1973-74, and 1974-75. Many of his records were only finally surpassed by Michael Jordan.
Bob Love's Jersey, #10, was officially retired on January 14, 1994.
A documentary about Bob Love, Find Yourself A Dream, has just been completed, and Butterbean, a full length feature film inspired by his life story, will be released in 2009.
