Briana Scurry

Former Goalkeeper for USA Women's National Soccer Team

Briana Scurry is hailed as the best goalkeeper ever in the USA Women's National Soccer Team.  Since her debut with the team in 1994, Scurry has become the most capped goalkeeper in U.S. Women's National Team history.

A political science major at the University of Massachusetts, Scurry was the top college goalkeeper in 1993 and received two national goalkeeper of the year awards after her senior season. Scurry was the starting goalkeeper at the 1995 FIFA Women's World Cup in Sweden and was on her way to compete in the U.S. Women's Cup in 1995 until an auto accident thwarted her chances to compete. Despite a back injury that left her unable to play, Scurry re-joined the team at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Scurry started and played every minute of the USA's five matches and helped the team take home a Gold Medal.

On July 10, 1999, Scurry participated in the "Dream Team" that made history by capturing the 1999 Women's World Cup. The most successful women's sporting event in history, the Women's World Cup drew a sellout crowd of 90,185, including President Clinton, and one billion worldwide television viewers in more than 70 countries.

Despite a myriad number of awards and accolades, and guest appearances on Rosie O'Donnell, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with David Letterman, to name a few, Scurry remains grounded. In addition to training, Scurry volunteers her time to raise money and awareness for AIDS research.
