Christopher D. Perna

Christopher D. Perna has been President and Chief Operating Officer of MedAmerica Insurance Company and MedAmerica Insurance Company of New York since September 1999.  

MedAmerica Insurance Company and MedAmerica Insurance Company of New York are wholly owned subsidiaries of Lifetime Healthcare, Inc., a not-for-profit healthcare company that has more than 65 years of continual service in the financing and delivery of health care services and currently serves more than 2 million people.  MedAmerica has been offering quality long-term care insurance to employer groups and individuals throughout the country since 1987. A series of recent acquisitions and the introduction of an exciting new product called Simplicity have made MedAmerica one of the fastest growing companies in the long-term care industry.

Before coming to MedAmerica, Mr. Perna served as President & CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Utica-Watertown from January 1997 through August 1999. Previously, Mr. Perna enjoyed a successful 12-year career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where he held several sales, marketing and general management positions.   

Mr. Perna is currently a member of the governing boards of AHIP, Family Service of Rochester and LifeSpan, Inc. where he holds various leadership positions and serves on several committees.  He is a graduate of the Leadership Rochester Program and is a member of YPO (Young President's Organization).   

Mr. Perna is a 1983 graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI.  He holds the designations of HIA (Health Insurance Associate), PAHM (Professional of the Academy of Health Care Management), LTCP (Long-Term Care Professional), and CSA (Certified Senior Advisor).
