Former President and Chief Executive Officer, National Association of Chain Drug Stores
Craig Fuller came to Washington, D.C. with President Reagan more than two decades ago and has held senior posts in government and in business ever since 1981. During the first term of the Reagan Administration, Mr. Fuller served as an assistant to President Reagan for Cabinet Affairs, managing the flow of information from and back to the Cabinet secretaries serving at the highest level of the federal government. During President Reagan's second term of office, Mr. Fuller served as the chief of staff to Vice President Bush. In this position he traveled to more than 60 countries and to every state in the country - most of them several times. As chief of staff, Mr. Fuller was part of Vice President Bush's six member presidential campaign team and then co-chaired his Presidential Transition Team once President Bush was elected in 1988.
Deciding to leave government service after 8 years in the White House, Mr. Fuller became president of a small public affairs firm that soon became part of the global public relations firm Hill and Knowlton. While at this firm, Mr. Fuller caught the attention of an incoming chairman and ceo of the giant New York based consumer packaged goods company now known as Altria. Eventually, Washington, D.C. pulled Mr. Fuller back to work in the executive recruiting world at Korn/Ferry International where he ran the Global Board Services practice. Then, in late 1999, when one of Washington's most successful associations needed a new president and ceo, they recruited the recruiter. Mr. Fuller led the National Association of Chain Drug Stores from 1999 to 2006.
Mr. Fuller serves on two public company boards as well as serving as a director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Retail Federation.
During the past several years, Mr. Fuller lead NACDS in major public policy initiatives involving Medicare and Medicaid. He has supported the current administration when he thinks they are right and strongly opposed them when he thinks they are wrong. He is a frequent guest on public affairs television programs and is an active speaker within his own industry and to broader business audiences. He is also the author of a book on the challenges he faced during his first three years in the industry. The book, entitled Monday.Morning: From the Front Lines of Community Pharmacy, is a compilation of his weekly electronic column.
Fuller is a frequent commentator on Fox News, and has been a guest on numerous public affairs shows such as Meet the Press, Nightline, Larry King Live, The Today Show, and CNN Inside Politics.
Whether the subject is politics or health care policy, selecting executives of selecting vice presidents or just a debate of opportunities and threats facing a particular organization, Mr. Fuller is an informative, relaxed and motivating speaker.
