Former ABC Medical Correspondent and Healthcare Expert
George Strait is a Senior Counselor with Hyde Park Communications. Mr. Strait comes to Hyde Park Communications with more than three decades of experience in health care, both as a leading journalist and a communications consultant.
Mr. Strait spent twenty-two years as a reporter for ABC News, the last 16 years as its chief medical correspondent. Mr. Strait has contributed to World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, and Nightline on issues such as health care reform, medical/ethical concerns regarding the new technologies, and AIDS. Following the inauguration of President Clinton in January 1993, he was named correspondent in charge of directing coverage of the health care reform debate and Hillary Clinton's Task Force on health care reform.
During his journalism career, Mr. Strait work has been recognized with the industry's most prestigious honors including the Overseas Press Club's Edward R. Murrow Award for a 10-part series on health care in Eastern Europe, the Alfred I. DuPont Award for a ground-breaking series on women's health, a Gold Medal Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, and a Blakesely Award from the American Heart Association.
After leaving ABC, Mr. Strait served as the Vice President of Content and Media for the Dr. Spock Company, an Internet resource for all aspects of parenting and childcare, and then as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs at the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Strait has also served as Chairman of the Board of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, a private philanthropic trust dedicated to improving the health and life chances of the disadvantaged.
Mr. Strait graduated from Boston University with a B.A. degree in biology, and completed an M.S. program in Biochemical Genetics at Atlanta University in 1969. In 1996, he received Boston University's Alumni Award acknowledging his distinguished career in journalism.
