Rita Moreno

Award-Winning Actress

Rosa Dolores Alverio, better known as Rita Moreno, entered into the Guiness Book of World Records as the only female to win the Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony and the Grammy.  She won the Oscar in 1962, for Best Supporting Actress as Anita in "West Side Story." She earned two Emmys, first in 1977, for an episode of "The Muppets," then in 1978 for her role on the "Rockford Files." Rita earned the Tony Award for her 1975 Broadway performance of Googie Gomez in "The Ritz." And she won the Grammy Award in 1972, for the album, "The Electric Company."

Rita has also received The Golden Globe Award, The Golden Apple Award, the Joseph Jefferson Award, the Nosotros Golden Eagle Award, the Sarah Siddons Award for her portrayal of Olive Madison, in the female version of "The Odd Couple,"and in 1995, Rita received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

During her career, she has appeared in more than 45 films, including "The King and I," "The Night of the Following Day," "Marlowe," "Carnal Knowledge," "The Lieutenant Wore Skirts," "Popi,"" Garden of Evil," "The Ritz," and "The Four Seasons." On stage, she has appeared in such Broadway productions as "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers," "The National Health," "The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window," and "Wally Cafe".

Ms. Moreno has served on the National Foundation of the Arts, as a commissioner on the President's White House Fellowships and is presently a member of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Rita is currently featured in the award winning HBO series "OZ."
