Thom Filicia

Interior Design Expert, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

One of both House Beautiful's Top 100 American Designers and House & Garden's Top 50 "Tastemakers" for 2006, Thom Filicia has emerged as a different kind of designer: one that blends the worlds of mass media and high-end, interior design to create an overwhelmingly indelible impression.

Weekly, Thom stars as the interior design specialist on NBC/Bravo's Emmy® award winning Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.  In this role, Thom was also honored with an Emmy® nomination for Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program.  Prior to his acclaim on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Thom Filicia garnered recognition as a major presence in the design industry.  In 1998, Thom established his own interior design company in New York City, Thom Filicia, Inc. (TFI).  TFI specializes in residential, commercial and hospitality projects, with a range of high-profile clients in the fashion, entertainment, media, real estate, and finance industries.  Last year, Thom Filicia and TFI designed the VIP Suite for the United States Pavilion at the 2005 World's Fair in Aichi, Japan.  Most recently Thom and TFI finished the interior design of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's primary residence in New York City, and TFI is currently working on the redesign of the W Hotel in Westwood, Los Angeles.

Mr. Filicia has designed windows for the luxe New York auction house, Christie's, and, for the second year in a row, has partnered with the Xerox corporation and Entrepreneur magazine to judge and execute design elements for a National Office Makeover Contest.  In 2004, Filicia designed the tents for Olympus' Fashion Week in New York City and has designed numerous tables at Elle Décor's Dining by Design DIFFA Event.  Other highlights include a complete housing renovation for an Oprah viewer, two Kips Bay Designer Showhouses, and the House & Garden Hampton's Showhouse.

Mr. Filicia and his designs have been featured in an ever growing list of publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, W, Teen Vogue, The Face, City, Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine, Details, Out, US Weekly, Cargo, Women's Wear Daily, People, The Advocate, The New York Post, In Touch, Interior Design, Hamptons, and House & Garden.  In addition, Thom contributed to the Queer Eye Book: The Fab Five's Guide to Looking Better, Dressing Better, Behaving Better, & Living Better.

Over the past few years, Thom has appeared in countless television programming including: the Oprah Winfrey Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen Degeneres Show, The View, The Jane Pauley Show, The Tony Danza Show, The Today Show, MTV's 2003 Video Music Awards (presenter), Access Hollywood (as red-carpet host for the 2003 Emmy® Awards), Anderson Cooper 360º, CNNfn, MSNBC's Squawk Box, NBC's comedy Good Morning Miami, E! News Daily, Barbara Walters presents: The Top 10 Most Fascinating People of 2003, VH1's Big in 2004, and South Park.  Thom was also featured in the national television campaigns for Pier 1 Imports and American Express.

Mr. Filicia studied Interior Design at Syracuse University's School of Art and Design.  Early on, Filicia focused his creativity on high-end interiors, working at the most venerable firms in New York City.  Having established a strong classical foundation, Thom is now exercising his personal aesthetic that is driven by a unique and innovative vision of classic simplicity.
