“Conversations with Power” with Haley Barbour

Watch Speaker Videos:

Tuesday, October 4th was Leading Authorities’ latest installment of our “Conversations with Power” series. This special presentation featured Governor Haley Barbour. John Harris, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of POLITICO, moderated.

During this talk, Barbour addressed the 2012 elections, President Obama, Republican strategy, the economy, campaign finance, job creation, and more. With his Mississippi charm and surprising sense of humor, he had his audience laughing while taking in his keen political insight.

Haley Barbour, governor of Mississippi and immediate past chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, is one of the top political strategists in the country and was praised for his handling of the Gulf Oil Spill and Hurricane Katrina. Barbour put Mississippi on a new path to job creation, education, healthcare, and energy. Previously, he served twice as chairman of the Republican National Committee. Under Barbour’s chairmanship, Republicans won the greatest midterm majority sweep of the 20th century, winning GOP control of both houses of Congress for the first time in 40 years. POLITICO called Barbour “the most powerful Republican in politics.”

John Harris, the editor-in-chief of POLITICO, co-founded the publication with Jim VandeHei in 2007. It has quickly become one of the most heavily read and influential sources of political news. Harris is seen frequently as a political analyst on CBS’s Face the Nation, PBS’s Washington Week and Charlie Rose Show, and MSNBC’s Morning Joe. He was also listed in Telegraph and GQ as one of the most influential journalists in Washington.

You can watch the archived video of the event. C-SPAN was also in attendance and broadcast the event live. If interested, you can watch their video, as well.
