Wednesday was the fourth installment of our award-winning series “Conversations with Power.” The panel centered on our nation’s energy debate and featured former Senator Byron Dorgan, former Governor Tom Ridge, and the Chamber of Commerce’s Karen Harbert. The discussion was moderated by National Journal’s and Atlantic Media Company’s Ron Brownstein.
The panel received rave reviews, and topics ranged from renewable energy sources and their feasibility to our country’s need for a comprehensive energy policy and what that should entail. Byron Dorgan is a former U.S. Senator (D-ND). He was the chairman of Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee and is currently a renewable energy advocate. He is also a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where he focuses on issues related to energy policy.
Karen Harbert is the President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, where she focuses on policy development, education, and advocacy. Previously, she was the assistant secretary for policy and international affairs at the Department of Energy.
The Honorable Tom Ridge is a former governor of Pennsylvania, the first secretary of Homeland Security, and a current natural gas and fracking advocate. While governor, his technology strategy helped fuel advances in economic development, education, health care, and the environment.
Ron Brownstein is the political director at Atlantic Media Company and the editorial director and a weekly columnist at National Journal. Twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, he is the author of six best-selling books and provides an insider’s look into politics and the media.
