Ben Stein

Ben Stein is a native of Washington, DC. He studied economics at Columbia University, and studied both law and economics at Yale, graduating as valedictorian of the law school class of 1970 by election of his classmates.

He has been a poverty lawyer, a trial lawyer, an economist, a teacher of law and economics at UC, Santa Cruz, Pepperdine, and American University. He was a speech writer for Presidents Nixon and Ford. He has been a columnist for The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and for many years, for The New York Times Sunday Business Section and for Barrons.

He became a cult figure in 1986 for his famous role in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, in which he played a boring economics teacher. This part made him by far the most well known economics teacher in America.

He was the host of Win Ben Stein’s Money on Comedy Central, a show that won 7 Emmies, including one for Stein and his co-host Jimmy Kimmel for Best Game Show Hosts.

At present, he is a regular commentator for CBS Sunday Morning, and for Fox News, and a frequent guest on CNN.

He also is a columnist for NewsMax and for The American Spectator. He is the author or co-author of more than 30 books, many New York Times best-sellers, mostly about finance. He lives in Southern California with his wife of 44 years, Alexandra, four dogs, seven cats, and a fish.
