David Werner

Political Satirist and Musical Comedian

David Werner

Like many of his classmates, Dave Werner took his Yale Law degree to a Washington, DC firm to launch his career. That path quickly changed the moment he was dubbed the “Funniest Lawyer in Washington” at a DC comedy club. Exclusively represented by Leading Authorities speakers bureau, the litigator with a funny bone has taken the entertainment circuit by storm.

Litigating the Laughs. Encouraged by his amateur success, Werner decided to go into comedy full time, so, in 1987, he went to work on Capitol Hill. While a senate staffer, he joined Washington’s highly regarded musical satire troupe, the Capitol Steps, where he performed in over 1,000 live shows and television and radio broadcasts. By fusing current events and presidential gaffes with the song stylings of the forties, sixties, eighties, and the present, Werner and his fellow Steppers made music of what the rest of the country tended to argue about.

Since going solo in 1995, Werner has performed for trade associations and corporate meetings around the country, entertaining them with equal parts inside-the-beltway political commentary and Iowa-bred humor. He is the self-styled “C-SPAN Music Man,” fusing melody, current events, and presidential impressions.

Werner offers a humorous take on today’s headlines mixed with musical impressions of George W. Bush, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, and other political figures. He offers a humorous take on today’s headlines, and each show includes special material drawn on pre-event interviews with the client, intended to enhance the show’s appeal to attendees and guests.

Everybody Loves Dave. Werner has appeared on the CBS’s Evening News with Dan Rather, NBC’s Today, and PBS. He has also been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. From Bar association meetings in Washington to building industry conferences in California, Werner keeps audiences around the country rolling with his routine.

The broad appeal of Werner’s act has brought him accolades from such diverse audiences as Fujitsu, Crown Petroleum, National Association of Homebuilders, EDS, National Association for Home Care, ADC Telecommunications, the American Osteopathic Association, Boeing Helicopter, and many more.

Book, Dave. Werner is also the author of the forthcoming book Waiting to Go On. For any and every event and function, Dave Werner can add the right touch—and, while he’s at it, the left touch, as well.
