Dick Heller

Expert on Leadership and Change

Dick Heller

Dick brings a unique combination of perspectives to his speaking and consulting. He spent eight years with tompeterscompany! as a consultant and facilitator, ultimately serving as Vice President and Chief Inspiration Officer. In that capacity he led the consulting group and worked with clients in education and development for leadership, communications, branding, customer service, and project management. He also spent five years consulting with ODI, a major TQM company focused on issues of productivity and quality in a wide variety of organizations.

Before joining tompeterscompany!, he spent many years as an independent producer and director of video programming for private industry and public television. In that capacity, he created information and training programs for many clients. While with WGBH-TV in Boston, he directed broadcasts of the Boston Symphony and the Boston Pops Orchestras, documentary programming for NOVA, two seasons of the Emmy-winning children's program ZOOM, and other cultural and educational broadcast events.

Dick has a view of the world of work that encompasses passion, energy, and perception. As an avid scuba diver, art historian, crossword constructor and photographer, Dick is always searching for new ways of looking at our lives and the way we work. A major theme of Dick's outlook is the courage to risk change, and his brand promise, based on success and experience, reads: "I'll get you to stick your neck out!"

Dick's speech topics include:

  • Finding your VOICE - A leader must communicate with great clarity. In order to do so, a leader needs to work diligently to develop a very personal VOICE.

  • What You See Is What You Get - Each of us views the world through our own "lens," defined by our history, our hopes, our environment. Those of us who understand our own lens without confusion can redefine and sharpen that lens to clearly see what actions we must take to achieve our aims.

  • Branding: Inside and Out - Clear brand identity is crucial for each and every economic entity, and each member of the organization has to be clear about what they bring to the endeavor and how they align with the overall purpose and meaning of the work.

  • Leading in Difficult Times - Leading in turbulent times requires focus, daring, vision, and the ability to help others see through the mist.

  • Leader as Coach - Leaders need to focus on dialogue, one-to-one and group discussions to make sure that purpose and direction are constantly emphasized.
