Hans-Dietrich Genscher

One of Germany and Europe's foremost politicians, Hans-Dietrich Genscher was the longest serving Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Western world in the 20th Century and Deputy Chancellor of Germany for 18 years.

An internationally respected statesman, he realised his vision of economic and political integration first with the German reunification and then as one of the architects of modern Europe. Widely admired for his integrity and insight, he is an expert on the importance of economic and political integration in Europe.

Hans-Dietrich Genscher is known as a man "of the political centre". He was acting Member of Parliament until the last elections in 1998. He continues to preside over several important institutions, a role he combines with writing for a number of major national and international publications as well as lecturing. He is Honorary Professor at The Freie Universitdt Berlin as well as at Peking University. He is Honorary Senator of the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina at Halle (Saale).
