Joel Kurtzman

Joel Kurtzman is a senior fellow at Wharton’s SEI Center for Advanced Studies in Management and a senior fellow at the Milken Institute. He is editor-in-chief of Briefings on Talent & Leadership, and was the founder and editor-in-chief of Strategy + Business. He was also editor-in-chief of the Harvard Business Review. Kurtzman was a senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and an alliance partner at Booz & Co. He was a columnist and editor at The New York Times, focusing on business, economics and leadership. He is the author of 25 books, the most recent of which is Common Purpose: How Great Leaders Get Organizations to Achieve the Extraordinary. 

For thirty years, Kurtzman has interacted with, consulted to and written about some of the greatest business leaders in the world. His clients have included Fortune 500 firms in high tech, financial services, education and retailing. He has also worked extensively around the world with professional services firms including law firms, consulting and accounting firms and technology firms. 

Kurtzman has spoken at venues all over the world about leadership and the importance of building focused, Common Purpose organizations. He has led retreats that have focused on culture-building, advanced leadership training, and organizational resilience.  

Kurtzman has served on public- and private-company boards and on advisory bodies for government and industry. 

He is passionate about helping companies and their leadership develop long-term, sustainable businesses and about integrating multi-generational, multi-cultural workforces to create ultra-high performance organizations.
