Director of Media Strategies, Burson-Marsteller
John Mercurio is the director of media strategies at Burson-Marsteller, a world-wide public relations and communications firm. Prior to joining Burson-Marsteller, he held the position of executive editor at The Hotline, Washington's premier daily online source on American politics. In his 17 years of covering politics in both print and on TV, Mercurio has become one of Washington's leading experts on campaigns, elections and American politics.
A twice-weekly guest on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, John also makes frequent appearances on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and NPR to discuss campaign news and events. He is also a contributing editor for the National Journal and writes a weekly column on politics that runs simultaneously on NationalJournal.com and MSNBC.com. He joined The Hotline in September 2005 after working as CNN's political editor for three years, and he has been a contributor to the Today show, the CBS Early Show, and the NBC Nightly News.
Previously, John wrote for Roll Call newspaper, covering Congressional elections, fundraising and the post-2000 redistricting process. From 1995 to 1997, he wrote for The Washington Times, where he covered politics and government in Maryland and DC.
John got his start in journalism as a reporter in suburban Washington, covering politics in several Virginia and Maryland counties for the Journal newspapers.
A native of Montgomery County, Maryland, Mercurio received a degree in journalism from Boston University.
