The Circuit: Always Learning
LEADING AUTHORITIES' ROUNDUP OF THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, TRENDS, AND PERSONALITIES ON THE SPEAKING CIRCUIT
One of the things I love about my job at Leading Authorities is that we are always learning new things from the incredible talent that circulates through our office. It is such a privilege to hear about current events, new technologies, and inspiring stories from highly accomplished people every week. And, I get to share just a few of those tidbits with you as we head into the weekend. This time around, I have a few things on leadership, overcoming barriers, and reaching your full potential. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
STILL TEACHING US LESSONS
Former White House Press Secretary and Fox News host Dana Perino shared a memorable lesson this week from the life of Former President George H. W. Bush. The touching story recounts a chance encounter with the leader when he was the director of the CIA, and goes on to detail a life lesson about the importance of being engaged in your work and in the lives of others—while also pointing out the power compassion has in leading others.
PROVING THAT VISION IS MORE POWERFUL THAN SIGHT
Blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer continues to break barriers and share his experiences with audiences everywhere. Premiering at the Banff Film Festival just last month and winning the Grand Prize, Weihenmayer’s new documentary The Weight of Water takes viewers along as he kayaks the Grand Canyon solo. In a recent article about the film, Erik asks, “Why am I so scared?” and the writer goes on to say, “It becomes apparent that Weihenmayer shares insecurities familiar to most humans, regardless of his super-hero accomplishments.” Watch the trailer here.
HERE’S A HEAVY QUESTION
Are you living life to its full potential? Author of Extreme You and former Nike, Gatorade, and Fly Wheel exec., Sarah Robb O’Hagan now has an online quiz to determine whether you “kick-ass” or “half-ass” your way through life. Who doesn’t love an online quiz? Fair warning: In her words, this quiz doesn’t give out “participation trophies,” so you might not like your results.
YOU CAN MEET HIM, TOO
Astrophysicist with an incredible life story – Hakeem Oluseyi – is joining us March 8 for Inspire: A Leading Authorities Day of Ideas. An incredibly gifted scientist, Oluseyi talks about space and physics in a way that everyone can understand – leading many of his audiences to say, “I thought I was dumb until I met you.” Along the way he also talks about his struggles to receive a quality education and beating the odds placed on children born and raised in the most rough and impoverished parts of the US.
