The Circuit: Peace on Earth

The Circuit

Leading Authorities' round up of thought leadership, trends, and personalities on the speaking circuit

Baby, It’s Cold Outside
Hovering around -22C, the temperatures in the Antarctic have to be some of the harshest on the planet. As explorer Ben Saunders continues his solo, unsupported crossing of the continent, he is blogging about his days, including the fun – like what percentage of dark chocolate tastes good at high altitudes – and the serious: how he deals with the mental exhaustion of working in a zero-visibility environment. It’s fascinating to follow along as a spectator to an adventure that I, for one, would never try!

Champion of Change
“Extreme poverty rips away an individual’s plan for the future. I’m not a Peace Corps volunteer or an economist. I’m just a Marine who believes he can make a difference.” These words are from Jake Harriman, who has combined his service as a Marine with principles learned in Grad school at Stanford to create an NGO that is committed to creating opportunities and local leadership in the world’s poorest communities. Honored by the White House as a “Champion of Change,” Harriman talks about an innovative model for solving age old problems in our most recent podcast

Seeing Clearly
Fighting blindness in 24 countries, Dr. Geoffrey Tabin and his partner have restored eyesight to more than 150,000 patients using new methods and products at a fraction of what they cost in western societies. “I still get such a thrill when people don't expect or realize they're gonna have their sight restored. And then a transformation when they see, and the sort of moment of hesitation, what are they seeing, and then the smile,” Tabin explains in this 60 Minutes piece.
