The Circuit: Team Work Makes the Dream Work
LEADING AUTHORITIES' ROUNDUP OF THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, TRENDS, AND PERSONALITIES ON THE SPEAKING CIRCUIT
It’s Fall! Football, pumpkin spice lattes, and sweaters? I’m ready even if I’m still sweltering here in DC. Kiddos are back to school and homework is rolling in but the team sports are starting and practice times are piling up. This week I’ve got a lot of looks at different kinds of teams: is the Republican team being hijacked? Are your team mates using their superpowers? As a leader, are you getting the most from your team? Or, are you recruiting and keeping the best team that you can? 4 quick reads I’m sure you can squeeze in while you’re warming the bleachers on Saturday.
Have a nice weekend!
DID HE HIJACK THE PARTY?
POLITICO chief political correspondent Tim Alberta recently discussed his new best-selling book American Carnage: On the Front Lines of the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump, saying, “Donald Trump could not have taken over the Republican Party unless it was fundamentally vulnerable to being taken over.” Discussing the emotional twists and turns the country has been through, the ideologies on the table and the push and pull between the old guard and the Trumpians, Alberta warns, “with a few exceptions, everybody is going to wear that scarlet letter of the Trump age for some time.”
FINDING YOUR SUPERPOWER
In a search for gravitas at 22, now business-owner and fashion designer Lisa Sun found what is perhaps her life’s calling – helping other people discover their confidence. As Refinery29 tells Lisa’s story from young McKinsey consultant turned entrepreneur, she shares her effusive optimism and the clothing line she created to help boost women’s confidence saying, “I’m like the body positive version of a skinny mirror, but all I’m doing is telling women the truth when they most need to hear it.”
GETTING THE BEST OUT OF YOUR TEAM
A lot of productivity guides focus on how to get the most out of your team, but what if you focus on getting the best out of them? Best-selling author Jeff Kriesler recently shared 3 behavioral design principles for doing just that – using science to boost productivity. First, Jeff suggests giving your team more choices and a greater sense of control, of their surroundings, their schedule, or their projects. He explains why feedback and recognition is critical and finally points out that purpose is key to helping employees find meaning in their work and can be an almost 3x change in productivity.
FACING A TALENT SHORTAGE
The number one risk facing organizations worldwide is a talent shortage. It is predicted that the US will have a workforce shortage of more than 2 million by 2025. Tackling the overwhelming statistics, former CEO of MetricStream and Silicon Valley entrepreneur Shelly Archambeau penned an article encouraging companies to widen their recruiting pools, reconsider their leadership pipelines, and focus on retaining the talent they have today. “If employees don’t feel embraced, supported, and challenged, they don’t stay.”
