The Circuit: Writing History
LEADING AUTHORITIES' ROUNDUP OF THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, TRENDS, AND PERSONALITIES ON THE SPEAKING CIRCUIT.
Happy November! I’m writing this sifting through my kiddo’s Halloween haul thinking about the upcoming holidays. I cannot believe how quickly Fall has gone! If time seems to fly for you too, you might enjoy the speakers highlighted this week, who are reflecting on their place in history, writing a new chapter, or helping us understand our place in it with a dash of humor.
And, as a friendly reminder, you have 53 shopping days until Christmas!
Have a great weekend!
IMPROVING LIVES WITH THE AMERICAN IDEA
Former Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, announced earlier this week the launch of his nonpartisan non-profit, the American Idea Foundation – founded on the premise that the condition of your birth should not determine the outcome of your life. The Foundation will educate audiences about policy issues and ideas to increase economic opportunities, expand upward mobility, and reduce poverty. We’re excited to see the impact!

On Wednesday, CBS News’ Margaret Brennan moderated a panel discussion on the security of U.S. elections with former members of the intelligence community, including former acting CIA director Michael Morell and former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe. With the presidential election on the horizon, the group talked all things national security and discussed the role of the Intelligence community in protecting our election process.
FINDING THE JOY AND LAUGHTER IN POLITICS
Congratulations to cartoonist Kevin “KAL” Kallaugher who recently won the “Rex Babin Memorial Award for Excellence in Local Cartooning” for his depictions in The Sun of issues involving the state and Baltimore region. He continues to find the joy and laughter in politics in his improv show, Choose Your Own Election!, happening tonight in Baltimore. The show promises to be a blast, featuring inspired drawing and performing sketches. Bravo KAL!
HAPPY 60TH TO MAGIC JOHNSON!
Basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson just turned 60, and earlier this week TODAY looked back on his impressive legacy, both in his career and his life. Still an icon on and off the court, Magic reflects on many topics including the current situation with the NBA and China and how he’s learned to not only live, but thrive, with HIV. Happy Birthday Magic!
