Event Recap: Fantastic Salon Dinner With Master Sommelier Alpana Singh

Alpana Singh, Restaurateur & Master Sommelier

Leading Authorities speakers bureau recently had the pleasure of hosting Master Sommelier and restaurateur, Alpana Singh, for a salon dinner event in Washington, DC, at Ghibellina for an intimate wine tasting and dinner pairing with some of our favorite clients across a myriad of different industries and sectors.

Anyone who has worked with her in the past, knows how well received she is by an audience, and this event was no different. Alpana arrived early and mingled with attendees over our first taste of the evening, a crisp glass of prosecco. Throughout the incredible Italian dinner, Alpana, warm and funny, unveiled her life story and experiences while explaining to us the background and basics of each wine we were tasting. She finished by giving extremely approachable techniques to identity good vs. bad wine while shopping, how to pick the right wine off of a restaurant’s list when given the responsibility, and tips and tricks on what color, smell, and “long legs” means for different types of wine. Alpana stayed well after dinner ended, answering questions, sharing stories, and providing further advice. The audience couldn’t get enough of her.

Alpana is the first Indian woman in history to become a Master Sommelier. One of 274 Master Sommeliers in the world, and one of just 24 women, Alpana became the youngest female to ever receive the title at the age of 26. She began at age 19, starting as a wine sales clerk and by 23 had landed a sommelier position at the world-renewed Everest Restaurant in Chicago. This accomplishment, along with her infectious personality, inevitably led to other opportunities.

For 10 seasons, she served as host of the three-time Emmy Award-winning show, Check, Please!, wrote a lifestyle book, opened three successful restaurants over the last six years, and after a five year hiatus, came back to host the award-winning show, Check, Please!, in 2018.

Alpana shares her moving story of overcoming adversity and breaking barriers and has inspiring and motivational message for audiences, as well as the versatility to cover a wide range of different topics or hot-button issues for any type of industry, and she is a fantastic choice for events focused on topics, such as perseverance, overcoming adversity, motivation, inspiration, entrepreneurship, and something different.
