The Circuit

Leading Authorities' roundup of thought leadership, trends, and personalities on the speaking circuit

Happy Friday! My name’s Maddie and I’m on the marketing team here at LAI. Kate’s in Minnesota visiting family this week, so you’re stuck with me.

In this week’s Circuit, we’re celebrating Dads. Read on for some touching stories and a fun bonus video created by the team at LAI Video.

I hope you enjoy reading, have a great weekend, and find some time to honor the amazing men in your life!

Would You Rather: Row Across the Ocean, or Fight a Screaming Toddler?

Double Olympic Gold Medalist Alex Gregory may have five World Championship rowing titles under his belt, but it’s the role of Dad that he finds most challenging and rewarding. (Awww.) His new book Dadventures is out now, and it’s all about the importance of spending time with your kids doing the things that matter: climbing trees, exploring, and just generally being together. “We all work so hard to provide, we forget to give children what they really want, which more than anything we can offer them, is our time,” Alex says. Ready to plan a “dadventure,” or looking for a last-minute Father’s Day gift? Check out Dadventures now.

In Her Corner

Four-time undefeated boxing world champion Laila Ali wrote a piece for Women’s Health this week about her relationship with her dad, the late, great Muhammad Ali. She gets candid about her dad’s original apprehension when she mentioned following in his footsteps. “He said what was really on his mind: ‘Boxing isn’t for women,’” Ali writes. Her dad did eventually come around, and supported his daughter 100%. Read the touching tribute here.

A Little Fatherly Wisdom

Journalist and women’s advocate Gretchen Carlson was featured in a Forbes article this week called “11 Female Leaders Share Dad’s Most Important Business Lessons.” Her dad’s best advice? “You can’t make everyone like you.” It served her well as she navigated the complex world of cable news, and no doubt continues to help her navigates her new, very public role as Chair of the Miss America board of directors.

Bonus: Telling Stories In #ALLCAPS

Our office was rocking the red this past Tuesday to celebrate the Capitals winning the Stanley Cup. Team LAI Video went down to watch the parade and produced this fun video recapping the day.

PS: If you haven’t watched Caps player T.J. Oshie talk about what the win means to his father, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, I recommend you do. But grab a tissue first.

Happy Father’s Day!
