Recognized as a preeminent geo-economic expert, Douglas A. Rediker is the founding partner of International Capital Strategies, LLC, a Washington, DC-based boutique advisory firm that provides clients with insights and advice on the intersection of geopolitics, macroeconomics, policy, and global financial markets. He is also a Non-Resident Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy and Global Economy and Development programs at the Brookings Institution, as well as a member of the Center on the United States and Europe, where he is one of Brookings’ leading experts on the economic and financial aspects of today’s top geopolitical issues.
Drawing from his experiences as an influential figure at the heart of global economics and geopolitics, Rediker leads an engaging conversation on the direction the world economy is headed and the factors that are driving it in that direction. Rediker previously represented the United States on the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2010 to 2012, having been nominated by President Obama in 2009 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in early 2010. In that role he served as a senior official of the U.S. Treasury Department and interacted with IMF, Finance Ministry and Central Bank counterparts from around the world, focused in particular on the response to the Euro crisis and its economic, financial and strategic consequences. He has testified before the U.S. Congress on a variety of subjects, including the role of the IMF, foreign policy implications of the global financial crisis, geoeconomics and state capitalism.
In addition to serving as co-head of the Biden Campaign International Economic Policy Team for Markets and Macroeconomics, Rediker previously served as the chairman, vice chairman, and a member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Geopolitical Risk, Geo-Economic and Economic Growth Global Agenda and Future Councils. He has moderated and participated in panels at WEF events in Davos on capital markets, the international monetary system, emerging markets, and global governance issues. From 2012 to 2016, he was a visiting fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Before that, he spent 16 years in Europe, where he served as a senior finance professional and private equity investor for some of the world’s leading financial institutions assisting governments on various strategic and financial assignments.
Rediker has been published in Foreign Affairs, The Financial Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, and other major publications. He appears regularly as an expert on geopolitics and geo-economics on international media outlets, including CNBC, Bloomberg, and CNN. He was named an "Emerging Markets Superstar" by Global Finance Magazine.
A member of several prominent boards and councils, Rediker is currently a member of the U.S. Council on Foreign Relations and serves as an independent director of Cowen Inc., as well as an external Advisory Board member at Converium Capital. Previously, he served as a senior fellow at the new America Foundation and director of the Global Strategic Finance Initiative, which he co-founded.
