Major General (Ret) Robert W. Mixon, Jr. served for more than 33 years in the United States Army before co-founding Level Five Associates. Subsequently, he served for over 10 years as a senior executive in the corporate sector, including for profit and not for profit companies. Robert offers a unique combination of leadership experience that's been honed in the leadership laboratories of the U.S. Army and corporate America. An established speaker and best-selling author, Robert has also built a leadership company from the ground up.  He publishes a bi-weekly blog on his web site which currently has 2,000 subscribers.

Robert challenges audiences to build and sustain a high performing culture of excellence characterized by empowerment, decentralization, and initiative. His "Big 6" leadership principles drive results and turn team members into extraordinary leaders who act like owners. Robert has successfully led change in the U.S.Army and in business, in times of extraordinary challenges such as the Great Depression 0f 2008-2012.  The co-author of a 2104 Amazon #1 best seller, Cows in the Living Room: Developing an Effective Strategic Plan and Sustaining It, he has just published a 2017 Amazon “Best New Release” , We’re All In: The Journey to a World-Class Culture. Believing that focused leadership and outcomes-based strategic planning are the "engines" of meaningful change in a company or organization, he shares his stories of successes – and failures – in his personal leadership journey using humor, candor, and imagination.  In 2016 and 2017, he was selected to receive the Teaching Excellence Award from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.

Manufacturing and Non-Profit Expertise.  Robert retired from active duty in October of 2007 and transitioned to Magnatag Visible Systems in Macedon, New York as its president.  Under his leadership, the company successfully navigated through the worst economic crisis in America since the Great Depression.  In 2009, he became Executive Vice President of CDS Monarch, a 501c (3) not for profit based in Webster, New York, providing life and job transition for over 1500 people with developmental disabilities, and he helped found the Warrior Salute Program for Veterans with PTSD and TBI.  To date, over 80% of the Veterans entering the Salute program have successfully graduated and are living independently.

Battlefield Expertise. At the time of his retirement, Robert was Commanding General Division West, First Army and Fort Carson Colorado, having previously commanded the 7th Infantry Division.  Throughout his career of over 30 years of active service, he commanded armor and cavalry units at every level, to include platoon, company, battalion, and brigade.  Robert also held critical staff positions, including serving as deputy executive assistant to General Colin Powell, then Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Prior to his assumption of command of the 7th Infantry Division, he led the Army’s Task Force Modularity, an integrated team of highly skilled military and civilian experts chartered with changing the Army’s force design while at war. They accomplished the mission in less than one year, transforming our battlefield formations which allowed the Army to dominate the enemy in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Education and Outreach. A 1974 graduate of West Point (where he was elected Class President), Robert also holds a Masters Degree from Rice University. He is a distinguished graduate of the National War College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, the Command and General Staff College, the USMC Amphibious Warfare School, and the Army Ranger School.  He serves on a number of boards supporting Veterans and community development programs in the western New York area.

Developing High Performing Cultures.  Robert shares his remarkable career insights gained through over four decades of corporate and military experience using the “Big 6” leadership principles.  He is an expert on change management and provides compelling examples from his personal experience to motivate and guide companies to embark on the pathway of growing their culture to a new level of excellence.  His keynote is aptly named “The Journey With No Summit.”
