Sophie Darlington, wildlife cinematographer, is a camerawoman with over 20 years experience filming in some of the most remote and exotic locations in the world. But her real passion is Africa, and here we talk to her about her love for the great plains of this ancient continent, and specifically her intimate knowledge and bond with its most iconic animal -- the lion.

Since 1991, Sophie Darlington has worked happily as a filmmaker and cinematographer specialising in natural history in remote locations throughout the world from 78 degrees South to 78 degrees North with a lot of Africa in between. Sophie won a BAFTA in 2016 and was accepted as a BAFTA member in 2018. Sophie would like to spend more time promoting the role of camerawomen in wildlife filmmaking as well as teaming up with young creatives with an expertise in technology to explore new techniques and alternative avenues for natural history content.
