Thom Tran: Taking Care Of Soldiers By Making Them Laugh

description

Got Your 6 Storytellers showcases the exemplary talents of some of our country's most innovative military veterans and how they're impacting their communities.

This video features Thom Tran, a first-generation American immigrant, turned American soldier, combat veteran, and now a professional touring stand-up comedian, who turned a literal lifetime of war and tragedy into a successful comedy career.

Four days after he was deployed to Iraq in 2005, Thom was struck in the back of the head by a snipper's bullet during a gunfight and was medically-discharged from the Army due to his severe injuries. After returning home to America, Thom created the GIs of Comedy tour, group of combat veterans turned stand-up comedians, where he discovered that laughter truly is the best medicine for healing some of the physical and psychological wounds he received in combat, as well as those of his fellow brothers and sisters in arms.

Comedy became Thom’s therapy after combat and his goal was to bring that same therapy to soldiers who are still deployed. To learn more about Thom Tran and his speaking topics, visit his speaker detail page.
