We Don’t Treat Patients, We Train Superheroes | David Putrino | TEDx

description

Recovering from any form of damage to the nervous system is an issue and athletic training could be helpful to find a solution. Athletes train for long hours without losing their motivation. Can we do the same for people with brain damages? And what is the best way to do it? No challenge is too great if you face it with a smile.

David Putrino is physiotherapist with a PhD in Neuroscience. He worked as a clinician in Australia, then moved to the United States to study computational neuroscience at Harvard Medical School, MIT and NYU. He was a faculty member at Weill-Cornell Medicine and Burke Medical Research Institute. He now works to develop innovative technology solutions that will improve the state of public health. In addition to a variety of academic publications, many of David's projects have been featured, among others, on the ABC, Sport's Illustrated, The Wall Street Journal, the BBC, Time magazine, Wired magazine, The LA Times, and many others.

Watch David's TEDx talk to learn more about why he believes that physical therapist do not treat patients, rather they train superheroes, and what that looks like in practice.
