About Martine Wright
Download ProfileAmidst the chaos of the Circle line bombing in 2005, she endured the loss of both legs. Yet, she views herself as fortunate, embracing a life brimming with fresh possibilities.
Martine Wright, honored with an MBE, embarked on a remarkable journey of reconstruction. Defying the odds, she ventured into skydiving, mastered the art of flying, and embraced roles as a spouse and mother. Additionally, she assumed leadership as the captain of the British Paralympic Sitting Volleyball team, while also serving as an Ambassador and Patron, alongside her role as an inspiring and motivational speaker.
On the fateful day of July 6, 2005, Martine Wright, accompanied by colleagues, gathered to witness the announcement of the host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Little did she know that the following morning, aboard the Circle line, she would find herself merely three feet away from the perpetrator, Shehzad Tanweer.
Martine, the most gravely wounded survivor of the 7/7 atrocities, endured an agonizing wait for rescue. Trapped for over an hour, she faced the ordeal of losing 80% of her blood supply and both legs above the knees. Subsequently, a year marked by arduous rehabilitation, including the painstaking process of relearning to walk with prosthetics, awaited her.
