A MacArthur “Genius” Fellow with decades on the ground across the region, Wright goes beyond the headlines to the people rewriting the Middle East’s future — reformist judges, feminist organizers, underground bloggers — and explains how their quiet defiance is reshaping a region the world still misreads.

Few reporters have covered Iran as closely, or as long, as Wright — reporting that earned her a National Magazine Award. She walks audiences through how a nuclear standoff, a shifting regional balance of power, and decades of failed diplomacy have made Iran the country Washington can least afford to misunderstand.

Having reported from more than 150 countries on all seven continents — including expeditions to both the North Pole and Antarctica — Wright brings a rare, ground-level vantage point to the political, economic and military currents reshaping the century, and what they mean for the decisions leaders make next.
