Thorsten Hens

Professor Thorsten Hens PhD is a global authority on the question of how investors make decisions and the influence of human psychology and biology have on the developments of capital markets. He is also  one of the leading European scientists in the field of Behavioral Finance and Evolutionary Finance. He teaches at the University of Zurich where he is  head of the Department of Banking and Finance. He is also  president of the investment committee of a Swiss Pension fund founded by Zurich Insurance group (investing 10 billion Swiss Francs) and an advisor to the city of Zurich pension fund (worth 14 billion Swiss Francs). 

Besides his academic work, he has also established his own company, the BhFS Behavioral Finance Solutions, which supports financial institutions with the analysis of the individual customer needs. He is the author of several books, among them: “Behavioural Finance for Private Banking” and “Financial Economics: A Concise Introduction to Classical and Behavioral Finance”.

Professor Hens is also Adjunct Professor for Financial Economics at the Department of Finance, Norwegian School of Economics and a  Research Fellow of the Swiss Finance Institute and the Center of Economic Policy and Research. He serves as Member of the Advisory Board of Value Intelligence Advisors, where he offer guidance on issues relevant for the investment process or the portfolio construction. 

A humorous and informal speaker, Thorsten Hens makes frequent media appearances. He is equally comfortable with the minutiae of economic  research and the psychology of investments as he is explaining the economic outlook clearly to non experts.
