Daliso Chaponda, international stand-up comic and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, delivers a sharp, hilarious take on finding humor in life’s unpredictability. Drawing from his global upbringing and career in comedy, Daliso explores how laughter builds resilience, bridges divides, and offers clarity in chaotic times. With quick wit and smart storytelling, he leaves audiences laughing, reflecting, and recharged.
The Unlikely Partnership of Comedy & Pain
Daliso Chaponda’s TEDx talk explores how comedy can transform pain into healing. He explains that his career unexpectedly evolved into making jokes about difficult and painful topics, racism, slavery, colonialism, and personal trauma, because humor allows people to confront issues they would normally avoid. Inspired by the film Life Is Beautiful, he realized that laughter can make unbearable truths palatable and even educational. Over time, Chaponda found that turning his own struggles, racism, refugee experiences, heartbreak, and childhood trauma, into comedy not only helped audiences process these realities but also acted as a form of therapy for himself. By reframing painful memories through humor, he discovered a “superpower” that allows both comedians and everyday people to heal, cope, and reshape their relationship with hardship.
