About Scott Mann
Download ProfileLieutenant Colonel (Retired) Scott Mann is a former U.S. Army Green Beret with tours all over the world, including Colombia, Paraguay, and multiple tours in Afghanistan. He is a warrior storyteller and the founder of Rooftop Leadership, where he shares the rapport-building skills he learned in Special Forces to help today’s leaders make better human connections in high-stakes, low-trust engagements.
Exclusively represented by Leading Authorities speakers bureau, Scott helps organizations and leaders gain a better understanding of their internal culture while exposing the potential for conflict that exists when trust has deteriorated. In the same way he empowered local tribes in Afghanistan to make transformative decisions using very few resources, Scott teaches corporate leaders and their teams the relationship-building techniques that drove so many of his successful combat operations.
Scott is the author of the Generosity of Scars, a hard-hitting field manual for leaders striving to become better strategic storytellers in a time of noise and disconnection. He is also the author of the instant New York Times bestseller Operation Pineapple Express, a third-person narrative detailing the harrowing stories of the veterans, volunteers, and Afghan allies who navigated the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. He has since founded Task Force Pineapple, a nonprofit organization that leverages warrior storytelling to help overcome the emerging moral injury and educate civilians on the mental health needs of our veterans. He regularly advocates in Congress and on national media outlets, such as CNN, FOX News, and MSNBC, for U.S. veteran mental health.
Scott has spoken on three TEDx stages, hosts The Scott Mann Podcast, and is an award-winning playwright and actor. His play about the Afghanistan withdrawal, 11 Days: The Story of Operation Pineapple Express, was recently adapted for film.
Scott Mann’s journey from the front lines to the forefront of leadership and storytelling exemplifies a life dedicated to service, healing, and empowering others to lead with authenticity and purpose.
Scott’s greatest accomplishments are his family. He and his wife of 30 years, Monty, have three grown sons, giving them more time to travel, tell stories, and spent time around their Tampa home.

Yet, human connection among corporate leaders is steadily eroding, leaving untapped value on the table and teams disengaged. Leadership expert Scott Mann brings a unique perspective on how leaders can bridge trust gaps and navigate emotionally charged conversations to foster genuine rapport and mobilize their teams toward strategic outcomes. His insights, drawn from years of navigating low-trust, high-stakes environments, provide leaders with actionable strategies to foster trust, build consensus, and lead with authenticity. His book, Nobody Is Coming to Save You, offers further inspiration and practical insights to help leaders connect, lead, and thrive in today’s complex environment.
Did you know that audiences forget 90% of a presentation’s content within 30 seconds if it isn’t delivered as a narrative? In this session, Scott Mann delves into the concept of narrative competence and the neuroscience that makes storytelling one of the most powerful tools for communication and influence. He explains how storytelling is a strategic tool for corporate success, fostering deeper connections at work, and driving positive outcomes. Scott explores the art and science of tapping into our struggles and transforming them into narratives that transcend boundaries and foster empathy. With a focus on emotional intelligence, he reveals how to lower the emotional temperature in high-stakes situations, capture attention when it matters most, and inspire action. Participants will leave with clear, actionable strategies to use storytelling as a tool to enhance leadership, strengthen workplace relationships, and create meaningful change in any setting.
Mergers, acquisitions, and organizational shifts often trigger primal fears related to status, resources, and security, leading to distrust and divisive group behaviors within teams. Scott Mann provides actionable strategies to address these challenges, helping leaders create psychological safety and guide their teams through uncertainty. By focusing on the human side of change management, he teaches how to replace fear-based narratives with trust-building approaches that foster collaboration. Scott equips leaders with the tools needed to navigate transitions smoothly and create a more cohesive and resilient organization.
