Download ProfileThanos is Founder & CIO of ABP Invest, a research boutique established in 2015 to provide strategic outlook and analysis on geopolitics, economics, markets and FX. The team’s success in navigating the last few years has been exemplary; calling for higher inflation from June 2020 and the subsequent turnaround in May 2022 for the US, which has been instrumental in their outlook across asset classes.
Prior to establishing ABP Invest he was in asset management for 20 years with CSFB Investment Management / Credit Suisse Asset Management and Investec Asset Management across fixed income, emerging markets, currency management and multi-asset. He began his career working as an Economist for the UK Government Economic Service through the civil service Fast Stream graduate programme, coincidentally amidst the outset of the ERM Crisis of 1992. His Minister was William Hague.
Thanos managed portfolios for a number of FTSE, Dow and DAX pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, local authorities and family offices. His team was presented with the “Currency Manager of the Year” award twice, in 2004 and 2010. He managed assets throughout the 1997 South-East Asian crisis, 1998 Russian and LTCM crises, dotcom bubble in 2000 and the more recent Financial and Eurozone crises, all of which helped provide a broader perspective of geopolitical developments and macroeconomic impacts to financial markets. He also called Trump’s surprising US victory in 2016!
He is a frequent guest on BBC, Bloomberg and CNBC as well as a keynote speaker and moderator at investment conferences. Thanos has been awarded the CFA Charterholder designation and is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House). Thanos is an FCA registered Adviser to Institutional Pension Funds through MJ Hudson Investment Advisers Limited (Appointed Representative). He holds an MSc Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.
Born in Athens, he has been living in London for 35 years. He loves windsurfing, bootcamps, running and more recently, cold water swimming.
