Stuart Pearce is one of England’s best known and most loved football icons. Stuart started his playing career at non-league Wealdstone in 1983. He signed for Coventry at the age of 21 and quickly established himself as a tough left back with a lethal left foot. After 2 years at Coventry he moved to Nottingham Forest where he spent 12 years, 11 as Club Captain. Stuart’s loyalty, commitment and dedication to the club led fans to affectionately nick name him ‘Psycho’.
Stuart also played at Newcastle in 1998, with the team reaching 2 FA Cup Finals and competing in the Champions League. The following year, Stuart joined West Ham, and then finished his playing career at the age of 40 with Manchester City. Stuart’s final contribution was to help them win the Championship.
Stuart represented his country 78 times, with 9 appearances as Captain. He played in the 1990 World Cup and the 1992 and 1996 European Championships. Stuart’s emotional celebration on scoring his penalty in ‘96 has become one of football’s most iconic images. In 1999 he was awarded an MBE for his services to football.
Stuart was made caretaker Manager at Manchester City in 2005 and after a successful start was given the job full time, staying at City for 2 years. In 2007, Stuart was appointed England U21’s Head Coach. During his 6 years in charge, he took them to 4 successive U21 European Championships, reaching a semi-final and final. Stuart was also given the honour of managing the Great Britain Squad at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
2018 sees Stuart joining Alan Irvine and Billy McKinlay as a coaching assistant for West Ham, led by David Moyes.
“The opportunity to work with David Moyes, who I have respected greatly over the years, was a big factor, as was having previously played for the club. It’s been many years since I was there for a couple of seasons, but I really enjoyed my time. The West Ham fans were fantastic to me and I’m looking forward to coming back.”
Stuart uses his football experiences and business acumen to great effect in the corporate speaking industry. Stuart has a wealth of experience in leading motivating individuals and teams, and extensive personal experiences in the world of sport. This, when coupled with his knowledge gained from time spent leading individuals and teams makes Stuart’s after-dinner speeches passionate and insightful.
Stuart appears regularly across the major broadcasters as a football pundit, studio guest and co- commentator.
