The title of Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi’s critically acclaimed memoir, A Quantum Life: My Unlikely Journey from the Streets to the Stars, aptly describes the challenging and prolific life of this internationally-recognized astrophysicist. Armed with a passion for astrophysics and an unbreakable determination, Dr. Oluseyi earned a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Tougaloo College and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Stanford University. From there on out, he has made pivotal contributions to developing technologies that have become standard across astrophysics and has pioneered patented technologies for devices used worldwide. In fact, his inventions can be found in the computer chips used every day. What’s more, Dr. Oluseyi has published over 100 scientific publications and has seven U.S. patents and four E.U. patents. A mentor and educator as well, Dr. Oluseyi is a Visiting Professor at George Mason University and Princeton University. 

With a distinguished history of service across multiple U.S. federal agencies, he has spearheaded diplomatic missions around the world and managed high-stakes projects that demonstrate his leadership and expertise on the global stage. Additionally, he served as the Space Science Education Manager at NASA Headquarters for NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and co-managed 25 cooperative agreements worth around $40 million.

Dr. Oluseyi is a renowned science communicator and has gained recognition for his award-winning books, engaging public lectures, and international TV science shows, including How the Universe Works, Baking Impossible, PBS NOVA, and many more. With an uncanny ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences, he has brought the wonders of the universe and scientific process to millions. At a young age, he discovered a love of science and space that was inspired by his role model, Albert Einstein. Throughout his childhood and into young adulthood, he was repeatedly faced with circumstances that would make most people give up—a lack of supervision at home, attending his state’s lowest rated school, falling in with the wrong crowd, and failing physics exams when he ultimately made his way to Stanford. But Hakeem never gave up.
