When Josh was 12, his older brother accidentally left his guitar at home when he returned to college. Within a month of playing his brother’s guitar, Josh was covering Led Zeppelin songs. Having grown up in a musical family, his passion for music only intensified from there. He formed a band called Inside Blue with his younger brother Charles (who is now one-third of Lady A) and, together, they self-released an album that gained local radio airplay and caught the attention of soul music legend James Brown. While at the University of Mississippi, Kelley released his debut solo album, Changing Faces, and soon signed a deal with Hollywood Records, which released his 2003 mainstream debut album For the Ride Home. “Amazing” became a top five single from the album and his subsequent album, Almost Honest, included the top 10 single “Only You.” Kelley released several albums in the years that followed — both independently and on major labels.
With a unique blend of elements from pop, rock, and country, Kelley’s songs deal with far-reaching themes of heartbreak, overcoming obstacles, and personal growth and have been featured in hit shows and movies, including “The Hills,” “Smallville,” “Scrubs,” and “Brothers and Sisters.” He’s as familiar to people’s eyes as he is to their ears, having appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “Good Morning America,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and “Live with Regis & Kelly,” to name a few.
Regarding his passion, Kelley has said, “I will never stop creating music — it’s in my blood and it’s what I was put on this earth to do.” When he is not working in his studio, he is a doting husband to Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl and dad to his three amazing kids.
