Charlie Cook is widely regarded as one of the nation’s leading authorities on U.S. elections and political trends. He founded the independent, nonpartisan Cook Political Report in 1984, serving as Editor and Publisher for 37 years, stepping down in 2021 and transitioning ownership and management of the venerable newsletter to Amy Walter. Charlie remains with the renamed Cook Political Report with Amy Walter as a contributor.
In addition to lecturing, Charlie continues to write his weekly column for National Journal, while also serving as a political analyst for the publication. He is also a co-author of the 2020 and 2022 editions of The Almanac of American Politics.
Covering and analyzing U.S. elections and domestic political trends, The New York Times once referred to Cook Political Report as “a newsletter that both parties regard as authoritative” while CBS News’ Bob Schieffer called it “the bible of the political community.”
Al Hunt, in the Wall Street Journal, referred to Cook as “the Picasso of election analysis.”
The late David Broder of The Washington Post, long considered "the Dean of the Washington political press corps," once wrote that Charlie Cook is “perhaps the best non-partisan tracker of Congressional races.”
Charlie has appeared on ABC World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and on ABC’s This Week. Over the years, he has served as an Election Night analyst for CBS and CNN.
In 2010, Charlie was the co-recipient of the American Political Science Association’s prestigious Carey McWilliams award to honor “a major journalistic contribution to our understanding of politics." In 2013, Charlie served as a Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
For speaking engagements, Charlie is represented by Leading Authorities Inc, and has been for over 30 years.
The Current Political and Legislative Environment. For more than three decades, Charlie Cook has been delivering independent, non-partisan political analysis as the founder of The Cook Political Report – deemed by The New York Times as “a newsletter that both parties regard as authoritative.” In this talk, Cook discusses today’s political and legislative environments in a balanced way, providing insights into the latest from the Biden administration, the interplay between Congressional Democrats and Republicans, as well as an expert outlook for what will happen in Washington this year. He’ll also explore how President Biden and the Democratic agenda will play on Capitol Hill and across the country, and the impact this may have on the midterm elections.
Election Forecasting. Founder of the independent, nonpartisan Cook Political Report, Charlie shares a “lay of the land” for upcoming elections, including what the key dynamics are driving are and affecting the Democratic and Republican parties. He focuses on the implications of states’ electoral leanings, what it all means during Presidential contests, what will likely happen in the House and Senate moving forward, and what the results mean for the two parties (and the American people). It’s what audiences need to know to determine the outcome of the next election.
Ideal Political Pairing. Charlie Cook also engages in exciting point-counter-points with some of our other featured speakers. Among them, Stu Rothenberg provides a shrewd commentary on current political trends and hot-button issues, as he puts his own insight to work predicting the policy directions of the presidency. Book Cook to get a perceptive look at what lies ahead in politics; book him with Rothenberg to get two points of view on what policy decisions are forthcoming and what lies ahead for America. It’s a pairing up of two of the most respected and experienced political analysts in the business, not from the left or the right or from the Republican or Democratic perspectives, but right down the middle.
One word...complete. He gave the overall of employment law with politics. Great way to see the connection... Held my attention and spoke with authority on the subject. Very informative and entertaining
I've had dozens of employees express how much they enjoyed your balanced comments. You noted, 'Elected officials are falling into righteous silos; reinforcing closed mindedness on both the left and the right.' I contend that most political commentators have fallen into the same trap. You, however, have not; which is refreshing. Your approach allows people to actually listen and learn, instead of shutting down. Thank you for maintaining the ethics a journalist should always uphold.
Rave reviews! I truly appreciate his joining us for the dinner portion and for his interaction with our guests during dinner and after his speech. Thank you for a terrific speaker and a smooth process.
Charlie did a great job on Monday. He is awesome! Many thanks for all you help. As usual, you and your team are great to work with. Looking forward to future opportunities!
Charlie – Again, thank you so much for meeting with us virtually last night. We had great feedback immediately after the broadcast. Some said that it felt more intimate than a full room with you at the podium – and we agreed.
